I adopted Bonnie in September 2002. She's a beautiful little sable, but was very scared and nervous. Her previous owners left her in a cage and wouldn't let her out to play.
When she first came into my care, she would hide and refuse to come out of her hiding spots. She was impossible to catch. This went on for a good couple of months!
But to make matters worse, my other little girl Daisy wasn't too fond of her, even though Mickey had no problem with her. Poor Bonnie was so scared, and had another ferret beating her up every time she saw her.
I started noticing after a while that she would follow me around my apartment. But as soon as I spotted her, she'd run away and back into her hiding place. From then on, I'd let her chase me around the place. She seemed to enjoy this game!
She liked it so much, that if I didn't play, she would sneak up behind me and bite my ankles, then run away again. Pegge had told me that this was her way of getting my attention. For a while, not a day went by that I didn't run around my apartment for her amusement.
Once Bonnie started getting comfortable in her new home, it was easier to get her and Daisy to get along. Soon after that, I was able to put them in the cage together without a fight breaking out.
It took me a while, but eventually Bonnie became a happy and trouble-making ferret just like my other two. She doesn't like to leave the apartment though, she acts up and gets very scared all over again. But everything's back to normal when I bring her back in and give her a milkbone treat!
